"얼룩 + 닭의장풀", 얼룩닭의장풀이라는 이름은 잎에 얼룩무늬가 있고 꽃이 흰색으로 피는 닭의장풀이라는 뜻에서 유래했다.

생육형 여러해살이풀
   줄기  털이 없다.
   잎  털이 없다.
   꽃  흰색, 꽃잎은 3장, 수술은 많다.
   열매  여름에 몇 개의 작은 송이를 이루어 맺히지만 결실하지 않는다.

Tradescantia fluminensis Vell. Tradescantia fluminensis is a species of spiderwort native to South America. It is one of several plants known by the common name Wandering Jew. It is also known as River Spiderwort, Small-Leaf Spiderwort, Inch Plant, Wandering Trad, Wandering Willie and Wandering Gypsy.
T. fluminensis is a perennial ground cover that spreads along the ground with soft, hairless stems and leaves. The fleshy stems root at any node that is on the surface. The plant has oval, dark-green leaves with pointed tips that are shiny, smooth and slightly fleshy about 1.25 – 2.5 inches long. The flowers are white with three petals and approx. 0.5 – 1-inch in diameter. They are produced in small clusters in summer but do not produce seeds.

▩ 미기록종 Tradescantia fluminensis Vell.
제주도 꽃산행 첫날 서귀포 새섬 일대를 탐사했다. 입구에서 지금까지 전혀 만나본 적이 없는 신종을 만났다. 닭의장풀과에 속하는 것은 맞는 것 같은데 닭의장풀 꽃과는 달라 보였다. 꽃은 오히려 자주닭개비와 많이 닮았다. 그러나 잎은 닭의장풀과 비슷하다. 일단 사진에 담았다. 나중에 강사 김지훈 박사님께 여쭤 보았으나 아직 실체를 만나본 적이 없다고 잘 모른다고 한다. 제주 야생화 카페에서 흰닭의장풀로 검색을 해 보니 비슷한 꽃이 나온다. 국생정에는 닭의장풀과 똑 같은데 꽃의 색깔만 흰 것을 흰닭의장풀로 올려져 있다. 자세한 것을 알아보려고 제주 야생화 카페에서 시도했으나 회원이 아닌 사람은 제한하여 알아볼 수가 없다. 자주닭개비 학명의 속명으로 검색을 해보니 비슷한 이미지가 나온다. 위키피디아에 올려져 있는 것과 같다. 국내에서는 아직 기재가 되지 않았나 보다.
